Many students claim to have testing anxiety - and many do. I have had testing anxiety on more than one occasion. However, if I'm honest with myself, some of that panic was connected to a lack of preparation. Luckily, I had good test-taking techniques at the ready; I overcame it and did well on my exams. Even ones for which I should have been better prepared. I had a PLAN. On the other hand, testing anxiety can be and sometimes is a real thing. One thing I've learned: Panic is the death of knowledge and reasoning. I can help you discern true anxiety from lack of preparation and help you overcome both.

Tessa believes that every student has an innate number sense. She helps students tap into their number sense through encouraging pattern recognition and letting students co-create their own knowledge by connecting what they already know to new concepts. Tessa helps students make sense of notation, not by memorization, but through the meaning of the symbols and notation. She then reinforces knowledge by using scientifically proven methods for turning newly learned ideas into long-term memories.

Having a Growth Mindset means believing that our intelligence and abilities are not fixed. It means that we believe we can learn from our mistakes and that we benefit and grow when we have a productive struggle. Not only does educational research support this, but I’ve heard it personally from dozens of students. Our mathematical intelligence is not fixed but increases with hard work, effort, and practice.
